Wings of Hope: Poems of Faith
Date - 26.1.2026“The Purple Candle”
The psalmist says if there’s no hope, our hearts will soon grow sick.
Candles lit for loved ones, the flame held by a wick.
A symbol of remembrance and mindless cruelty.
The reminder of man’s, deep disdain and depravity.
How can man, inflict such pain and hate?
As we remember, console and commemorate.
Let’s not forget the innocent, that were taken and perished;
Eternally, they burn in our hearts and evermore be cherished.
Over 80 years, since liberation;
Today still fighting for salvation.
Have we not learnt, lessons from the past?
Or do we turn away, a blind eye we cast.
Despite the continuous destruction, the people of Hashem live on.
A steely resilience, because they are steadfast and strong.
A way of survival, a way to cope;
We all need love and we all need hope.
There are wounds, that need healing and a suture.
We want to have, Hatikvah and a better future.
Purple represents royalty and nobility;
Let’s extend the hand of friendship and honourability.
The miracle of light, transcends the dark abyss.
Ensure your light is shining, for such a time as this.©️Stevina Southwell
